Abstract

For many decades, development strategies have been placed on the table of planners and debated in universities and research centers. The development of this region is inseparable from the development of rural areas, whose subject requires deep reflection and raises many controversies. The territorial immensity of the Amazon region makes it equally heterogeneous and complex in terms of population settlement with different ethnicities and cultures, as well as the immense biodiversity. The environmental balance is altered by human activity, being more intense in the frictions that have been occurring at the limits of productive frontiers, mainly associated with agricultural production. On the other hand, the process of advances in the agricultural frontier is continuous, but has different rhythms in time and along this frontier. The study presented in Professor Mario Sergio Lobão's book seeks to capture the result of this process of territorial transformation, making a portrait of the first decade of this century, above all, it makes a deep analysis of the product of the most recent actions carried out to make productive activities viable, with special attention to the agricultural activity
